Chrome Shelled Regios - How Do I Plot Thee, Let Me Count The Ways
Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:30AM
Chrome Shell Regios started out rather standarly. Post apocalyptic/ruined alien world with independent city states and people with mysterious powers. Enter the mysterious stranger with mysterious powers who just wants to be ignored, thrown into the political intrigue of his new home. Pretty standard, in the anime world. Well, the writers seem to have realized this, and threw at us in one episode at least 10 new plot threads. And they all make about as much sense as the name of the chick in the screen shot below.

Of course you are.
First the basics. Layfon is a new student has arrived at the university city of Zenri. The school is a domed, travelling city in a wasteland of a world. Before he can even enroll, he is forced to save a girl from falling debris caused by a fight between two Military Arts students. This suggests that Layfon is much more than an average student, and gets the attention of the student president, who effectively runs the city. He forces Layton to join the Military Arts program, and gets recruited by Nina, the leader of the group of misfits known as Platoon XVII. The platoon includes the sister of the student president, Felli, a telepath. During an inter-platoon contest, Layfon reluctantly reveals his true power to the school. That about takes us to Episode 3.
Let's start with :
PLOT 1
Look Into My Eyes...

Mysterious Chick A, who we've seen Layfon leaving behind at the start of the series, looks deeply into Chick B's eyes makes some mysterious discovery. Most likely, she's discovering she's a little gay there dontcha know?
PLOT 2
I'm Off The Hard Stuff

So Layfon used to have a Heavens-Blade. Again, sounds a little gay. But it most likely has to do with the weird parallel story in episode one where Layfon carves up some giant bug with the help of a bunch of other guys with FABULOUS hair.
PLOT 3
Sister Complex

So pres dude is willing to sell out his sister to get Layfon to work for him. What is she capable of exactly?
PLOT 4
The Cameo

This is a fairly detailed one. While random looking bad guys try to take the cities AI (or...something) random good guy shows up, takes bad guys and Nina into some parallel dimension, and defeats them. Who the hell is this guy, why does he fight in a different dimension, and what the hell is Ignus?
PLOT 5
Fairy Power

Electronic Fairies? I think this is what the call the AIs that run the cities. Nina has a connection to EFs as seen by
PLOT 6
This One Time, When I Was Almost Dead...

PLOT 7
Harem - Gotta Start Somewhere

Seems some normal people have a crush on little Layfon. I get the feeling there are no normal people in the show, however.
PLOT 8
Creepy Doll Girl

We already know the sister is part of some master plan, but she seems to know something about Layfon too. Maybe it's just the Heaven's Blade thing, maybe it's something...mysterious.
PLOT 9
Not Who You Think I Am

Related to Plot 1, Synola appears to be pulling a Price and Pauper thing and is really the Queen of something. It's also revealed she has a connection to the Heaven's Blade, and thus probably knows Layfon as well.
PLOT 10
Quit Buggin Me

Then there are these giant Filth Monsters...they can't be good.
And finally, just in case you think you think this show is going to get anywhere close to normal, we have the name of Episode 4...
