Anticipation - Kimi ni Todoke

One fall anime I'm looking forward to is Kimi ni Todoke, the story of a girl, who closely resembles Sadako from The Ring movie, who is feared by all her classmates.  She is befriended by the boy she and the school idolizes, and her lot in life starts to turn.  A non-translated trailer is below (you'll have to search for a fansubbed one).



The thing is, this trailer makes me less, rather than more, excited.  I was hoping for a decent romance story, but I was expecting them to play her looks more for laughs.  It could still be so, but I think I am confusing this with The Wallflower, where another scary looking girl is thrown into an uncomfortable situation, but there it is completely played for laughs.  This trailer shows no indication of anything resembling a laugh.  If this is a plodding, slow burn romance, I don't think I'll make it through.  But it will be fun to see the ostracized girl make it with the popular boy, and not the other way around like I'm use to.
