Princess Lover Ep 1 - Rich People ROCK!

Genre mashups are a common anime theme, trying to take two successful storylines and merging them to make, hopefully, something better. One genre with a long tradition is the Harem anime. Another that has gained popularity recently is the Butler/Maid anime. Princess Lover takes elements of these two and mixes them together, and the result? Awesomality.
They even through in ballroom dancing!
Teppei (which sounds more Hispanic than Japanese, but I'm a gringo) is your average kid, growing up in a happy household, learning Kendo from dad and helping mom with the chores. We start with a heartwarming scene of family bliss, discussing the latest news about mysterious accidents targeting the nation's wealthy elite. As you may have guessed along with me, that is going to last about 10 more minutes.
Called it
Jump ahead two months after the tragic accident that took his parents life. Tappei finds himself ready to accept his grandfathers offer to live with him, but first, let's throw in random heroics via horse drawn carriage.
You don't see that every day
One relatively high speed chase later, considering there are horses involved, Teppei finds himself midair with the damsel in distress. They're eyes lock, they share a special moment...and fall over 100' into a forest.
Hello, I must be going
Teppei leaves behind a disgraced butler, which, if Butler anime is to be believed, is not something you want to come face to face with.
An ACTUAL combat butler!
He's not so scary, what's he gonna do?

Teppei come to in a typical anime posse (hand where it shouldn't be) to be confronted with a his damsel, who introduces herself as:
We can tell Teppei is out of his league and social standing, considering his total lack of any idea what to do when presented with a simple unspoken request.
Never seen a hand before?
Teppei moves from his misadventure to meet with Grandpa, who turns out to be head of a major conglomerate. But he yearns for simple things, like a grandson.
Yes Boss
Here we get most of the backstory. Teppei's mom is the daughter of Issen, head of the Arima group. We are led to believe that's a big deal. His daughter and son-in-law were killed by the people who are targeting rich people, as Teppei has believed for awhile. He has come to live with Issen to get the resources to seek revenge, a path Issen seems to simultaneously support and dismiss. Dismiss by saying revenge is a lonely road that leads to suffering. Support by making Teppei the target of the same people who probably killed his parents by making him his successor.
Very shrewed move
I'm loving the old man. Not only does he use his new grandson to draw out his enemies, he has a flair for the dramatic. After hearing how Teppei was involved in a rescue on the road just before arriving late to the dinner party, he insists he doesn't change before being introduced.
The dumbfounded look is growing on him
Of course, grandpa failed to ask whom Teppei was rescuing.
Hence the anime's title
I did mention that this works as a harem anime as well, and we have one princess, so we are going to need another.
This just got weird
Just kidding. That's a bit much even is this was a loli show. I'll throw in a little spoiler shot, but this is clearly a harem from both the opening and closing credits.

So from the above, we have meet one of the four. The next is the maid. I don't think we get a name, but that could just be me. Teppie, unlike every otaku guy out there, isn't sure what to do with a maid.
What was your first clue? The frilly apron?
The introduction of the third comes next, in a very cool way. Teppei gets a pigeatin' grin when he sees a young woman practicing swordplay outside. She does not take kindly to being watched, launching into what should probably NOT be called fencing.

Once again, Grandpa is way ahead of Teppei, probably having arranged this little meeting. Teppei, as usual, is clueless.
Know thy enemy, know thyself
You can guess where this is going.
I would be perfectly OK with this
If you can't tell by now, I am having a total otakugasm over this show. Maybe it hit me in the right time and the right mood, but I love the characters, especially Teppei and Issen, and Sylvia and Charlotte are shaping up, no pun intended, to be awesome as well. This one's going to have romance, intrigue, blood and revenge, and I'm looking forward to every frame.
