Summer Opener - Moe, Moe, Moe, How Do You Like It?

Today we will take a look at two fairly different animes that have a common element.  While it's true that Moe girls is pretty much an element of every anime these days, what makes these two shows unique is that is about all they have going for them.  The first is the oddly named Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!! This falls into the dumb girl in cute outfit category, something they willfully promote.

I give them props for totally avoiding the transformation sequence with this McGuffin

The other is Sea Story, a more lighthearted story of sea folk mingling with their Earthbound counterparts.  One issue I noticed - they're not really merfolk.

Legs?  You're going get a letter from Hans Frickin Christian Anderson.

Let's start with Sea Story.  The story is incoherent so far, but more for its over simplicity than its complexity.  As we open the story, we find random sea girl and her sister finding a ring thrown into the water and insists on returning it to the owner, dragging her sister along.  The fact that the entire race of merfolk appears to be four people, and one of them seems to think land is more dangerous than a DMZ, seems to be forgotten in seconds.  They find said person, who obviously had a reason to toss the ring away, and people make comments about their weird outfits.  The end.

It actually is that confusing and simple.  I can not tell what tone they are going for.  It works in serious elements (with an earnest desire to return the ring), to silly elements (where people are staring at the girls outfits).  The style also shows the dichotomy.

Noses are for good girls

Unfortunately, they even try to mix the two, with pitiful results.

The face is introspective, the hand is from a Warner Brothers cartoon

Not all that impressive so far.  Equally unimpressive, but perhaps salvageable, is Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!!.  Starring Plug, an employee of a parallel dimension agency with the mission to energize depressed people with electricity.  Really, don't believe me?

That's what I said

She is able to fly and remain unseen in our world from everyone except Sentou, who sees her just fine, and reacts as anyone would when a flying girl tries to stick a giant plug into his sister.

Inconsistent parallel universe visitor physics is just one issue with this show

As an electrical engineer, I appreciate their attention to proper electrical saftey protocals.

This would actually work

For the most part, this is just dumb and ecchi, which I can get behind.  But there is one fetish in this show that I have not seen much before, one that is really going to turn me off it they keep it as a running gag (I can't even bring myself to mention it).  This could go in many directions, probably starting with the depressed person of the week model.
