Princess Lover 5 - Steppin Out
Monday, August 10, 2009 at 05:00PM
This episode gives us some decent plot and character development, but the variable animation quality ends up giving us some interesting effects. For example, here is a shot of Charlotte that appears to be an attempt at 3D!

They always point to magnetic North too!
Random question - is this a translation error, or is Charlotte planning something a little extreme to get Teppei's attention?

Princesses usually have someone to deal with that for them
As we start off, I have this dreadful feeling that the party Teppei is suppose to throw is going to be the main drama of this entire series, considering how it seems to permeate everything they talk about. Nezu even shares some ideas, which I have to assume are not real helpful.

Somewhere bad...
In any harem anime, the guy is a side character, to be played with by the main playas. Good to see they acknowledge this fact early on.

And 2 bucks till Friday?
Sylvia doesn't actually own Teppei (yet) so she has no objection to letting Charlotte have her way with him. At least, that's what she claims...

She was never heard from again
Sylvia's reaction to Charlotte's planned date is a tad over the top if you ask me, especially for someone towing the "he's just a friend" line. But I guess that's the point of the whole show, now isn't it.

That sounds sincere
I would like to point out that we started this series with roving bands of murderous thugs terrorizing the nations elite and wealthy, even murdering Teppei's parents. So who thought it would be a good idea to meet up here?

Watch out for The Noise!
This is Hachikō, the dog outside Shibuya station that is a popular meeting spot. Shibuya is in Tokyo. This is important to know when you hear Charlotte final destination.

About 300 miles West, BTW
One private jet trip later, the happy pair are in Osaka, ready to take in the sights per Charlotte's orders. And when she sets her, um, mind on something, it's going to happen.

Watch where you point those things!
With three little words, I have come to the conclusion that Charlotte is the perfect woman in this or any anime, hands down.

Who wouldn't!!!
Shopping, aquarium, Ferris wheel, the day contains it all, and throughout the show, we have to ask - who dressed this boy?

That maid is so fired
A proper date would not be complete without random conversation that reveals some uncomfortable facts about the other person.

Ixnay on the othermay...
Yea, oops

as in past tense
Charlotte gets real introspective at this point, with the "they live on in you heart" and the "never forget them" and the whatnot. This tender moment makes Charlotte remember about Sylvia, who is quickly going from buddy to rival. Seems she shares a common history with Teppei, as Sylvia lost her mother when she was young.

Bet she could gut you like a fish with a rapier at this age, too
This leads to two observations. One, rich people seem to loose their parents a lot. This makes me wonder if there is some revelation about Charlotte we are going to come to soon, given that all we've ever seen is her butler at home. Second, if Sylvia lost her mom at the age she appears to be in the shot above, there is a very good chance Maria is only her half sister. In a normal show, this would end up being a big deal, in this shallow of a show, it may never come up again. I also have to wonder where Maria's mom is.
All this drama has an affect on Charlotte in a tender moment after their Ferris wheel ride, which adds more creedence to my "bad things for Charlotte family" theory.

Insecure much?
What does she have to be insecure about?

Oh yea...
