Sora no Manimani Ep2 - Now With SCIENCE!
Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 10:00AM
A little plot development, and little character development, a lot of actual science, and these guys:

This is the most normal looking Astronomy club I've ever seen
Mihoshi still needs a 5th for the club, as the new guy in the picture above is already in the photography club and thus, by the rules of Japanese school clubs, taken. The best candidate appears to be the new girl on the scene.

A Star is Born
Mihoshi's recruiting methods are a tad extreme.

She metioned the hair. Don't mess with the hair!

This is an inside joke, if you're Japanese
Hime has a hair complex, due to the razzing she took as a kid due to her frizzy hair. She keeps it under control now, but a chance meeting and an off-handed compliment about her hair has Hime head over heels for Saku.
But first, SCIENCE!

Once again, this is absolutely correct (aside from the grammar). Don't know why that surprises me...
This week's science fact was actually from Mihoshi's childhood lessons, which just re-enforces Hime's fear that she can't compete with these two best of childhood friends.
Mr President sets things straight.

Which turns out to be a much better recruiting method than Mihoshi's.

With the astronomy club at full force, they must now prove that they are a real club by participating in real club activities, like observation night. It goes as expected.

This also is absolutly accurate
Taking shelter at Saku's house, we get a glimpse of manic mommy, and a bit of a plot point. When someone asks you this...

and someone responds like this...

...it's called FORESHADOWING.
They reconvene the next evening, hi-jinks ensure, but nothing really worth filling in. All the action seems to take place up front - Hime sees her chance, Masashi gets the fever (though as a six member, do we really need him) and MORE SCIENCE!

We call it Deneb in the West WHY DO I KNOW THIS???
Characters in place, situations about to happen...and overall, it's pretty blah. The astronomy will keep me tied in, and I don't hate it, but I can't recommend this yet. Unless the explanation of the Spring Diamond was a metaphor for the love diamond forming between Hime, Saku, Mihoshi and Sayo, which would make this show brilliant - if only I hadn't just made that up.
