Bakemonogatari Ep5 - Walkabout

We wrap up the Snail arc this week as Araragi looks for a way to get Hachikuji home.  Now, one of the genres of anime character that I try to ignore is the loli, referring either to younger than high school girls, or the older guys who are a tad too into them.  Hachikuji would be a prime example of a loli if they played up her (lack of) sexuality.  This show would never stoop so low, would they?

I guess they would

I'll skip the loli pandering and jump right to the meat.  Senjōgahara returns with Oshino's advice on how to loose a snail.  Just walk away.

He said, she said

Senjōgahara's advice, therefore, is for Araragi to Just Walk Away (imagine hockey mask guy from Road Warrior when you read that), which confuses poor Araragi.

That's what you think Lucy!

We can already see where this is going.  The fact is, Senjōgahara knew something was up all along for one simple reason

More to the left, dear

Araragi is not concerned that Hachikuji is, in fact, the snail, keeping him from wanting to go home.  He sympathizes with her, however, and cares not that he may be doomed to wander with her unless he can help find her way home.  He's just that kind of guy.

Don't forget the biting

Senjōgahara expected this response, having plumbed the depths of Araragi's soul thanks to her own interaction with him.  Remember that she was weightless for almost two years, and yet Araragi was the only one to care.

This seems to have had an affect on Senjōgahara

Moving on, we gowait what?  An episode 5 confession?  Most blogs I've read are totally gaga over this reaction, which is pretty novel, I have to admit.  The tension between the main couple often carries a show for dozens of episodes, but here we blow the wad in the first half.

The various parties react accordingly.

O RLY?

YA RLY.

NO WAI!!!

We still have a mission to fulfil, which is almost anti-climatic at this point.  As expected, we find the spot, it's a vacant lot, but a ghost don't care.

Now that wasn't so hard now was it

Back to the main event - I kinda knew nothing was as simple as it seems when Senjōgahara is involved.

Tease

I have poured over the scene represented by these last three screenshots, and still have no idea what the hell any of them are talking about...

And I thought Senjōgahara was the obtuse one!

My interpretation is he is saying he could fall for a girl like her, so let's see where this goes.  Whatever this means, it made Senjōgahara smile, so I'm going to go with It's A Good Thing.

One more for the lolis...

She's not going away, is she?

I can see the logic in your argument but I think you've painted your strokes
